What is recorded here
Indicated, a fairy fort in County Mayo, sits on a ridge above the Owenmore River, its oval stone boundary now swallowed by later field walls and pasture. The original ring has vanished under grass and clearance heaps, leaving only a faint memory of enclosure in the land's shape. What remains is not a ruin but a suggestion: a place where human hands once drew a circle, and the circle has been forgotten.
In pasture, located on a slight rise on top of a ridge, overlooking the valley of the Glenree or Owenmore River to S.
When inspected in 1995, this ringfort consisted of a slightly raised, oval area (27.7m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by a stone bank/wall. The ringfort was incorporated into a system of later field walls, and it was difficult to determine to what extent the original enclosing element was preserved. On the S arc of the circuit, the stone bank (Wth 2.9m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.45m) was low and largely sod-covered; on the W arc it was obscured by a large heap of loose field clearance stone; the N arc was defined by drystone walling, which appeared to be a later field wall, and the E arc was subsumed into a NNE−SSW property wall. The interior was level and featureless. There was a narrow eroded break in the wall at N, but no clearly defined entrance gap. The ringfort was levelled in subsequent years. There is an enclosure (MA031-029----) c. 60m to NW.
