What is recorded here

Indicated is a hidden rath in County Kerry where overgrowth swallows the bank and two loose slabs hint at a forgotten passage. It sits beside a stream and a lost spring, preserving the shape of a place people once knew but stopped naming.

In pasture, at the base of a W-facing slope. The arc of the bank (min. Wth 0.9m; ext. H 0.95m) of this rath is visible W-SE but is difficult to inspect due to overgrowth. Stones are dumped in places along the bank. A N-S stream is adjacent to the W terminal of the bank. The interior of the rath is covered with overgrowth. Two large stone slabs, lying on clear ground in the N sector, may indicate the location of a possible Man-made underground passage (KE058-132002-). This rath is indicated on the 1894 OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped area (c. 20m NE-SW) with a straight SW side (L c. 30m). A well is indicated in the W sector on the 1894 OS 6-inch map. In the 1840s it was recorded that this rath was known locally as 'Lissatobbar from a spring well which is a little to the S. of it' (OSNB, Kilcredane, 17).
