What is recorded here

Indicated is a forgotten fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland. The 1838 map drew a twenty-metre circular embankment on a south-facing slope, but later surveys erased it and quarrying scattered its stones. Local tradition still calls it a fort, preserving the shape of what the land has since swallowed.

In pasture, located on a S-facing slope. This possible rath is depicted on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 20m); it is not shown on later map editions. There is no visible trace at ground level. A small area of quarrying and a small heap of loose stones are evident at the location. It is remembered in local tradition as a ‘fort’.
