What is recorded here

In upland pasture immediately N of the townland boundary with Ballinlyna and 135m NW of a large forestry plantation. Standing stone (LI056-056---) lies 5m to W and enclosure (LI056-020---) 40m to W. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a roadway running NE-SW. Annotated ‘Bothar na bhFian’ on the Cassini ed. OSi 6-inch map where it is shown as a trackway running NE-SW for a length of c. 170m. Visible as a linear cropmark on Google Earth orthoimages. The road runs along the line of the roadway depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map that was later diverted to the W. Monitoring under licence No. 02E0112 was carried out during groundworks for a house at Ballyroe Upper, Kilfinnane, immediately to the west of a ringfort [LI056-020---] and a road named Bóthar na bhFian, which on inspection was reminiscent of a cursus. During this inspection an unrecorded element, a standing stone [LI056-056---], was noted within the zone of archaeological potential of the road. This stone is 5m west of the western edge of the old road; it is almost square in section and stands to 0.6m high (Collins 2004, 307). See attached Google Earth orthoimage.
