What is recorded here
Indicated is a circular earthen fort in County Mayo pasture, its stone-and-earth bank still defining a level platform twenty-three metres across. The builder lifted the eastern half against the natural slope, creating a flat floor where the land tilted, while cultivation ridges still cross the interior like forgotten furrows. Two other forts sit within two hundred metres, suggesting a small cluster of lives rather than a lonely marker. The bank slumps and erodes in places, yet the shape holds, preserving the decision to force a room into uneven ground.
In pasture, located toward the base of a gentle E-facing slope in gently undulating terrain, with rising ground to E and immediately to W, and open views to N. There is a stream 100m to W.
Raised circular area (23m N-S; 22.5m E-W) defined at SW–NW by a bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.65m; ext. H 0.5m, at W) of earth and stone, which is reduced elsewhere to a scarp (Wth slope 1.5m; ext. H 1.45m at W). The bank slumps broadly on its external slope at N. Stones can be seen protruding in parts on the internal slope, possibly remnants of stone facing. The bank is lowest and rather degraded on the SE arc, with several narrow eroded breaks, but no clearly defined entrance feature. The rath appears to have been built up on the E half to create a level platform, compensating for the natural slope. Remnants of cultivations ridges, on a roughly E-W axis, traverse the interior. There is a rath (MA038-104----) 100m to NW and another (MA038-168----) 140m to S.
