What is recorded here

Indicated is a stone crannog in the centre of Loch Hoirbeaird, built without wood and still visible as one of two overgrown oval islands. Kinahan called it a lake stone-dwelling in 1872, marking it as a peculiar artificial island rather than a typical wooden crannog. People may have stood on that stone rim, looking out across dark water, knowing the lake itself had been shaped to hold them.

In the centre of Loch Hoirbeaird. Kinahan (1872, 11) recorded a 'lake stone-dwelling' in this lake, describing it as 'a peculiar structure somewhat allied to a crannog, being wholly or in part an artificial island, but no wood appears to have been used in its construction'. This would appear to be one of the two completely overgrown oval islands towards the lake centre. Inspected from lake shore only.
