What is recorded here

No trace of the ringfort marked on early maps remains on the flat-topped hillock west of Derriana Lough, but a narrow drystone passage still cuts through its north-west face. The west end has collapsed, and a second opening on the south-east may have led to another passage crossing beneath the hill. Whatever lived inside that hidden chamber has stopped answering, leaving only a hole in the pasture and a story about what disappeared.

A circular enclosure and 'Cave' are marked on the first edition of the OS maps at this location. No surface trace survives of the enclosure, which is marked ‘site of’ on the second edition. It was located in pasture on a flat-topped hillock, a short distance W of Derriana Lough. The opening to a Man-made underground passage (KE090-003----), .6m x .75m, is located on the NW face of the hillock. It leads into a drystone-built passage, aligned E-W, which is roofed with lintels. The W end of the passage appears to have collapsed. Local information records a second opening, now closed up, on the SE side of the hillock. This may indicate that a second Man-made underground passage passage is aligned at right angles to the first. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
