Ian McKinley was born in County Dublin, Ireland on 4 December 1989. He lost sight in his left eye during a rugby match in 2011, retired from professional play, then returned to the sport in Italy wearing specially made goggles. He scored twenty-eight points in his first match back and later represented Italy nine times before becoming an assistant coach.
