House 3 at Mooghaun South is a circular dwelling with a double-kerbed wall and rubble fill, situated beside the middle rampart of Mooghaun hillfort. Its eastern entrance rose slightly above the interior, creating a step that may have been roughly cobbled. A possible central post-hole and a second feature near the southwest wall suggest a wooden frame or support inside the stone room. These details preserve the shape of an occupied life within the hillfort rather than an empty archaeological marker.

Situated 3m E of the middle rampart of Mooghaun hillfort (CL042-074001-) in the SW quadrant of the hillfort and 15m NE of a cashel (CL042-074002-). One of three hut sites in this area excavated in 1994-5 as part of the North Munster Project of the Discovery Programme. ‘House 3’ was circular (ext. diam. 6.15m; int. diam. 4.5m) and defined by a double-kerbed wall (Wth up to 1m; H 0.4m) with a rubble fill. An entrance feature at E (Wth 0.76-1.3m) may have been roughly cobbled and was slightly higher than the interior producing a stepped effect. There was evidence for a possible central post-hole with a second similar feature at SW close to the internal wall. ‘House 1’ and ‘House 2’ lie 15m and c. 33m to the E respectively.
