Hut site in Lecarrow (murrisk By.)

Situated at the base of the south-eastern foot of a locally prominent boulder-strewn hillock to NW of Leck. The hut site overlooks ‘Lough na bPoll’ basin that lies some distance away to SE. It is associated with a house (MA085-069----) that lies 3m to E, as well as a number of ruined walls (MA085-069001-). What is visible is the remains of a possible hut site of subrectangular plan (NE–SW 3.2m, NW–SE 2.55m internally). It is defined on upslope side from S through W to N by an impressive megalith-like wall composed of large set flag- stones of conglomerate (Wth 0.8m × H 1.1m max.). From N through E to S (downslope side), a series of quite large flat slabs (H 0.3m max.) appear to mark its limits. No definite trace of an entrance is discernible, but there is a gap (Wth 0.5m) at E. The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island. Volume 5: Archaeology.
