What is recorded here

Knockroe West holds a circular hut site seven metres across, set off-centre to the west inside a ringfort. The stones mark a small domestic chamber rather than a grand hall, suggesting one family or one craft occupied that corner while the wider fort belonged to everyone. The asymmetry preserves a human choice: shade, light, entrance or pride directed the building away from the middle.
In interior of ringfort (CO127-013----). Circular hut site (diam. 7m) off-centre to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
