Hut site in Glaspatrick

Located on the summit of Croagh Patrick, c. 10m N of the NW end of an enclosure (MA087-044006-) which occupies the summit plateau. It is one of a cluster of hut sites (MA087-044009-), located at the NW end of the summit. It consists of a circular area (diam. 5m) defined by a collapsed stone wall (H 0.2m). The N half of the hut site was excavated (94E0115) in 1995 (Walsh, 1996; Morahan, 2001, 20). In the interior, a shallow peaty layer (D 0.15m), incorporating a spread of charcoal, overlay naturally occurring rock outcrop and scree. A fragment of a chert flake, a minute fragment of bronze and a modern penny were found within the charcoal layer. Another excavated hut site (MA087-044008-) is located c. 100m to WSW.
