What is recorded here

Fahouragh holds a circular hut site seven metres wide at the centre of its ringfort. The measurement is exact even when the human story is lost. Someone built a small round room inside a defended place, perhaps to keep warmth, tools or a person safe during bad weather or trouble. The stones have not spoken since, but the shape still points to an ordinary life lived under a serious sky.
In ringfort (CO142-068----). Circular hut site (7m N-S; 7m E-W) at centre. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
