Hut site in Canalough

On the E extremity of a rough pasture ridge with occasional outcropping rock, on the seashore on the S side of Blackball Harbour. The remains of a rectangular hut site (4.9m N-S; 2.6m E-W) defined by a grass-covered bank (Wth 0.8m; H 0.6m) of earth and stone along the W, S and E sides and by the face of outcropping rock at the N which is topped with a drystone wall. A vertical slab (L 0.8m; T 0.15m; H 0.2m), which forms an internal facing for the bank at S, stands on the edge of the seashore. A break in the W bank may indicate the location of the entrance. The hut site is sheltered by the outcropping rock at N. Another hut site (CO127-050019-) is 16m to the NNE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
