Hut site in Canalough

On a level terrace, on the N side of an E-W rough pasture ridge with occasional outcropping rock, on the seashore on the S side of Blackball Harbour. The remains of a rectangular hut site (5.6m N-S; 2.4m E-W) defined by a bank (Wth 0.8m; H 0.4m) of earth and stone, which is largely obscured by long grass. The entrance (Wth 0.3m) is in the centre of the E bank. A large, mainly grass-covered, slab lies on the S half of the interior of the hut site. The sea is eroding the exterior of the N bank. There is a hut site (CO127-050011-) 20m to the W and another hut site (CO127-050013-) is 7m to the E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
