Hut site in Canalough

On a level terrace, on the N side of an E-W rough pasture ridge with occasional outcropping rock, near the seashore on the S side of Blackball Harbour. The remains of a rectangular hut site (7.2m N-S; 3.2m E-W) defined by a bank (Wth 1m; H 0.55m) of earth and stone, which varies in height and is largely obscured by long grass. A stone slab (L 1.2m; T 0.14m; H 0.5m) stands on edge to form the SW corner. Rubble and earth are piled against the S bank internally and may indicate part of a collapsed E-W internal division. There is a hut site (CO127-050014-) 15m to the W and another hut site (CO127-050016-) is 12m to the S. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
