Hut site in Canagullen

In boggy hill pasture, on a S-facing slope, overlooking the valley of the Glanmore River and within a network of relict field boundaries (KE111-025004-). The grass-covered remains of a D-shaped hut site (1.6m SE-NW) defined by the lower courses of a clay-mortared wall (T c. 0.9m; H 1.25m) with a straight SE side (L 2.1m NE-SW). The wall is stone-faced internally and externally. The NW and SE portions of the interior are cut (D 0.65m at NW; D 0.3m at SE) into the upslope, creating a level interior that is lower than the immediate external ground level. There is an entrance (Wth 0.5m) at E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
