Hut site in Benedin

Situated on high ground, immediately N of the Nenagh Bypass. Uncovered during the monitoring of topsoil stripping. A circular setting of post-holes (int. diam. 3.8m) with an internal beaten clay floor, associated with numerous stake-holes and small pits, some filled with charcoal-rich soil and burnt red clay (McConway 2000a, 189). Finds included pottery, chert scrapers, burnt bone and slag (ibid.). The excavator suggests a Bronze Age date for the site (ibid.). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
