Cappanawalla hillfort in County Clare still casts a shadow over the oval hut site on its eastern slope, where a curvilinear field system marks the edge of an old neighbourhood. The eastern half has been cut back by a zigzagging farm track, but the remaining curve suggests a dwelling large enough for heat, argument and sleep. Perhaps it served the hillfort as a kitchen, a guardroom or a home for someone who watched the valley while others looked after the herds.

On the E slope of Cappanawalla. A possible oval hut site (diam. c. 14m N-S; . 10m E-W) was noted on Digital Globe (imagery date 2011-13) and reported to the National Monuments Service by Ros Ó Maoldúin. It is embedded in a curvilinear field system (CL002-034001-) and may be associated with Cappanawalla hillfort (CL002-076001-).
