Hut site in Ballard Commons

In rough hill pasture, on bog, on the SE-facing slopes of Maulin overlooking the valley of the Owgarriff River. The remains of a circular hut site (2.8m E-W; 2.7m N-S) defined by upright slabs (T 0.3m; H 0.5m) W-NE and by the tops of stones which protrude intermittently from the bog NE-W. A gap at SW may indicate the entrance location. The level interior, which is obscured by rushes, is cut (D 0.1m) into the upslope at the NW to compensate for the hillslope. There is a hut site (CO115-103008-) 9m to the SE and another hut site (CO115-103010-) c. 50m to the N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
