What is recorded here

That is the origin of Baile Mór Thoir. The first settlement appeared at the foot of Monaree Hill, looking down through the valley. People chose the place because it faced the land they could see, not a border imposed later. The hill still stands above the town, and the town still exists because people first believed that particular view was worth living with.

Roughly circular univallate rath KE053-007---- is located at the foot of the S slopes of Monaree Hill, overlooking Ballymore village. The interior is raised above the external ground level on the downhill side. It is now occupied by a series of cultivation ridges, but 2 shallow depressions, to NE of the dividing field wall, may be the remains of hut sites (KE053-007002- & KE053-007003-).
