What is recorded here
The Down Survey parish map (1656-8) of Ferns parish places a house in a large territory called Ferns, which contains 1900 acres. This consists of the townlands of Rosemaryhill, Kiltown, Tinnashrule, Kilthomas, Coolpuck, Coolroe, Ferns Demesne, Kilbora, Raheenagee, Bolinaspick and Bayland. The house was close to the boundary of the territory called Upper Ferns and Ainimoe, and the most likely location for it is in Tinnashrule townland. This land is not described in the Civil Survey (1655-6), so it was probably owned by the bishop (Simington 1953, 265-7). The precise location of the house is not known.
