What is recorded here

In 2019 a fragment of a granite high cross came to light in the graveyard (WX015-003008-), but its dimensions (0.32m x 23.5m; L 0.51m) indicate that it is not part of any of the other five crosses already known. It has a fret design on one large face with interlace on the other while the narrow panels are decorated with key patterns. Its fret designs are similar to those on the shaft of the cross known as Diarmaid Mac Murchadha’s cross (WX015-003013-) and other parallels suggest a ninth century date for both. For safe-keeping it is now kept at the castle. (Kelly and Corlett 2020) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload; 18 Novmeber 2020
