The Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Sheelogher/‘Sheelelogher’ depicts a substantial house in ‘Lislonenn’ townland, which equates with the modern townland of Desart Demesne (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). The house is depicted in the W portion of the townland, immediately E of a ‘Wood’ which appears to equate to the modern townlands of Great Wood and Deerpark which are still wooded today. The precise location of the house is unknown. Desart Court, which was built in c. 1733 and possibly replaced the earlier 17th-century house, has since been demolished (Bence-Jones 1988, 103).
