House

House, 17th century

What is recorded here

A house is marked at Cam on the Strafford map of c. 1636 (Simington 1949, Athlone (176)). It was not encountered in the field, unless it is (RO048-194----). Cam and the unknown Caher, amounting to 597 acres, were owned by the Bishop of Elphin, but most of this land was rented by Donnell O Dollan, who was probably related to James Dolan of Cloghan castle (RO044-055----). The bishop retained the land in the 1660s (ibid. 100). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
