What is recorded here

Five and a half metres of stake-holes still mark the arc where people lived beside Tombs 15, 16 and 17. They set wood into earth, shaped clay, and left behind sherds from decorated and Carrowkeel ware vessels. The absence of a hearth does not empty the place; it withholds the exact moment when flame last moved through it.

This Neolithic House Site, No. 4, is part of Eogan's Phase 3 Decorated Pottery complex: Domestic activity – Zone F, which is located between Tombs 15, 16, and 17. This phase, now called Middle Neolithic, is associated with the building of the tombs and dated to c. 3500-2900 cal. BC (Eogan and Cleary 2017, 41). House Site No. 4 consisted of an arc (diam. c. 5.5m) of 7 stake-holes in an area with 109 stake-holes but no hearth or habitation layer was identified. Including Neolithic House 5, the finds were few but there included sherds from at least 2 decorated vessels and 6 Carrowkeel ware vessels.
