What is recorded here

Two overlapping circular trenches, each about seven metres across, cut a small footprint into the Kilkenny earth. They belonged to an Iron Age household living beside a palisaded enclosure and another house thirty metres west. The road works revealed them in 2006, but the shape suggests people stood inside, touched the wall and watched the land through a gap left by the overlapping rings.

Excavated in 2006-7 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Road Improvement Scheme. Excavation licence no. 2517, AR054, Area E. One of a cluster of monuments found in close proximity to each other in an area c. 1.8ha with dates ranging from the Late Neolithic to the early medieval period. Two overlapping circular ring-slot trenches (diam. c. 7m) very similar in form to the houses in the NE segment of an Iron Age palisaded enclosure (KK031-076----) to the S and interpreted as being contemporary.
