What is recorded here

Detached three-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1800. Pitched reed roof with raised ridge, concrete copings and low rendered chimneystack. Rendered walls with square-headed window and door openings with replacement uPVC fittings. Outbuilding attached to and slightly recessed from east gable. Grassy area to front bounded by rubble limestone wall.
This house is the only fully occupied thatched house on Inis Meáin and one of only a handful on the Aran Islands. Although its roof and openings no longer have detailing traditional to the island, the retention of thatch and of the relatively small openings is of interest.

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
