What is recorded here

On a slight rise in grassland. According to local information, there was a 'ring' of collapsed stone (D c. 6m) at this spot. However, it was removed during land reclamation when 'ashes' were uncovered from a hollow in its centre. No visible surface trace survives. Possibly a kiln or settlement site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
