Terraced pair of four-bay two-storey and three-bay two-storey houses, built c.1840, with pubfront and integral carriage arch, return and extensions to rear. Now joined together as one property. Pitched slate and tiled roof with terracotta ridge tiles, rendered chimneystacks with terracotta pots and some cast-iron rainwater goods. Ruled-and-lined render to walls of pub and shop with smooth render to north-east of facade. Timber sash windows with painted sills to upper storey windows. Modern timber pilastered pubfront with display windows and central round-headed door opening with fanlight and timber panelled door. Square-headed door opening to residential accommodation with glazed timber door. Segmental-headed integral carriage arch with timber battened doors.

Pilkington's, located on busy Bridge Street, retains some original character with its two-over-two horned sash windows to the upper storey and a carriage arch opening. According to the current owner it has been in the same family for six generations, and as a result plays a role in the social history of Birr.
