What is recorded here

Pair of semi-detached two-bay two-storey houses, built c. 1880, having central two-storey return to the rear. Pitched natural slate roof having rendered chimneystacks to either end (west and east). Smooth rendered walls over smooth rendered plinth, and having raised render block quoins to the corners. Square-headed window openings. Raised render surrounds, stone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door openings to centre bays having raised render surrounds, timber battened doors and plain overlights. Set slightly back from road to the east of Gleann Cholm Cille/Glencolumbkille. Gravel forecourt to the front (south), gardens to the rear (north).
This attractive pair of semi-detached houses, of late nineteenth-century appearance, retain their early character and form. Their integrity and visual expression is enhanced by the retention of much of their early fabric including natural slate roof and timber sliding sash windows. The simple rendered surrounds to the openings and the block quoins to the corners add some decorative interest to the facades of these otherwise plain buildings. The semi-detached form of these buildings is unusual to find in such a rural location. This suggests that they may have been built by the local landlords at the time of constructions, the Musgrave family, or perhaps, that they were built by the Congested District Board or the relevant local authority. These buildings are pleasant additions to the rural landscape to the east of Gleann Cholm Cille/Glencolumbkille, and are modest additions to the built heritage of the local area.
