The chapel of St Mary Magdalene 'iuxta Clane' is recorded in a list of parish churches and chapels in the diocese of Kildare drawn up by Dr. Roche MacGeoghegan, bishop of Kildare from 1629 to 1844 (Comerford 1885, I, 261). In 1700, the maudlin 'by Clane castle' is referred to, together with 'Maudlinstown, near Clane' (Upton 1918-21, 335). (Bradley et al. 1986, vol. 2, 149). The monument has not been located.
