Holyrood Abbey was founded in 1128 by King David I of Scotland, dedicated to the Holy Redeemer and St. Columba, and is a significant example of medieval monastic architecture in Scotland. It later became a royal chapel and is closely associated with Scottish history, including the life of Mary, Queen of Scots.
