Death and distance cannot touch the person who drinks from this hidden well, according to local story. The claim sounds like desperation spoken by someone facing an unavoidable loss, yet that desperation may have shaped the legend rather than the water. The well remains a circular hollow cut into rock, waiting for someone desperate enough to test whether love or fear first invented the promise.

A roughly circular hollow cut into a rock outcrop forms this holy well. A tradition records an inscription on the base but it was not possible to verify this. Described by Ó Muirgheasa in 1936 as a 'Holy Well in Cruck townland, a quarter of a mile to the south of Mullaghduff N. S. It is said there is an inscription on the flag in the bottom of the well' (1936, 152). (Ó Muirgheasa No. 49) The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. This holy well is associated with Saint Cruck (or Cróga), a lesser-known early Irish saint linked to several holy sites in the region. The well was traditionally visited for healing purposes, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin, and local folklore suggests that the water was believed to have curative properties when taken on specific feast days.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
