Holy well in Rattoo

This well is not marked on any edition of the OS maps. Situation and Description: This well was meant to lie about 20 yards N of Rattoo Abbey (KE009-056004-). However, no surface trace of the well survives today. About 120 years ago, the landowner (Gunn) closed it up. Rounds/Legends/Offerings: Rounds were still paid to the well after it was closed up. It was known locally as 'Tobar na lour' and lepers are said to have been cured there. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Linked to Saint Gobnait, the well was traditionally associated with cures for eye ailments and was visited on her feast day, 11 February. Pilgrims would recite prayers and take holy water, believing in its healing properties.
