Holy wells in County Derry are not decorative. They are drinking water, healing water, memory water. The body knows the difference between rain and god. That is why people still go to them when pretending not to believe.

Linked to Saint Cannan, a 6th-century Irish monk and founder of several monastic sites in Ulster, the holy well at Magheracannon was traditionally visited for its supposed healing properties, particularly for skin ailments and eye complaints. Pilgrimages to the site often involved rituals such as circling the well or collecting water on specific feast days.
