Holy well in Downs

What is recorded here

The Ordnance Survey Letters (1838-40) noted a 'a well called Brideogs well, at which patrons were held many years ago' (O'Flanagan 1928, 77). Not located. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 07 February 2013
Linked to Saint Bridget (Brigid), the well is associated with early Christian patronage festivals, reflecting the saint's widespread veneration in Ireland. Such wells were often sites of pilgrimage and healing rituals, particularly for women's health and fertility.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
