Holy well in Boleynass Lower,boleynass Upper

Unlocated holy well within the townlands of Boleynass Upper/Lower. According to Lynch (1994, 641) there is a holy well known as ‘St John’s Well’ in the townland of Boleynass that is mentioned in the 1930s Irish Folklore Commission, Schools Manuscript Collection (IFC S 927: 133). Linked to St John, the well was traditionally visited for healing and purification, particularly on St John’s Day (24 June). Local folklore from the 1930s records its use in rituals involving the collection of water for sick or ailing family members.
