Mullafarry Lough in Ballinteeaun, Ballybroony, Coonealmore, Lisglennon, County Mayo, Ireland, held two wells, one of which people treated as holy. That much is clear. Whether the water cured fever, received prayers or simply marked a boundary between the ordinary and the numinous is no longer certain. The lough keeps both possibilities alive.

This record is based on a reference in the 1838 OS Letters: 'At Mullafarry Lough are two wells, one of which is looked upon as a holy well…’ (O’Flanagan 1927, 176-7 (93-4). It has not been possible to identify this well. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 8 May 2019
