Holy wells have long served as ritual sites where water carries memory, healing or warning. In An Chloich Mhór Theas, that old purpose still belongs to the land even before its history is written. The well may have marked birth, loss, love or survival, and people may have returned with offerings, prayers or bare hands. Its name preserves the shape of that forgotten life.

Linked to Saint Cianan, this holy well is associated with cures for skin ailments and is traditionally visited on Saint Cianan’s feast day, 19 March, with offerings of coins and cloth left at the site. The well is also connected to local folklore involving a protective spirit that guards the waters.
