Knockmoy Abbey stands beside three holy wells, including Tubber-na-Fion, which local tradition claims tastes like wine, and Frinchais, believed to cure sickness. People likely walked these Galway paths for centuries, trusting water rather than medicine when fever or fear arrived. The abbey gave the wells a name, but the wells gave the abbey life, feeding both body and imagination long before stone walls crashed into grass.

Associated with Knockmoy Abbey (GA058-004001-). Glynn (1904, 239), notes the presence of three wells in the vicinity of the abbey as follows: 'To the east of the abbey is ... Tubber Cathal [GA058-004007-]; to the north another called Tubber-na-Fion [GA058-004008-], supposed to have the same effect as wine; and a third called Frinchais [GA058-004009-], believed to have powerful medicinal properties'.
