Linked to Saint Bóiléne, the well is associated with healing traditions, particularly for skin ailments and general wellness. Local folklore suggests that the waters, known as Dubhoileán Mór, were once visited by pilgrims who sought cures through immersion or the drinking of the water on specific feast days.
