Loughinisland in Tievenadarragh, County Down, is a post-medieval settlement where human life left marks the land still holds. The official record points to the centre of that site, not a house or a hall, but the whole shape of living there. People may have farmed, birthed, buried and argued beside water or fields now forgotten. The island name suggests a small world cut off and complete in itself.
