What is recorded here
Kilkeel is a post-medieval settlement in Magheramurphy, County Down. It is no longer a visible village, but the land still carries the shape of the lives that formed it. People may have farmed, birthed children and buried the dead there before the name faded from common use. What is recorded is that the settlement existed, not that it has disappeared.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as Historic Settlement Kilkeel. Recorded period: POST-MED. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
