HISTORIC SETTLEMENT: DONAGHADEE in Donaghadee

Donaghadee has been a human settlement since at least the Late Medieval period, with continuous habitation through the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries into the twentieth century. The town stands where people have lived, worked and crossed the water for generations, its streets and harbour shaped by that long unbroken presence. What is recorded is not a single event but a settlement that kept becoming itself, layer after layer, in one place.
