What is recorded here
Gateway, dated 1894, comprising pair of rendered, ruled and lined piers framing square-headed door opening with chamfered reveals, replacement tongue-and-grove timber panelled door, c.1995, and elliptical-headed overpanel with inscription and moulded surround. Road fronted.
This gateway, which retains most of its original form, is an attractive feature in the streetscape of Saint John’s Avenue. The inscribed lettering to the overpanel, which enhances the artistic quality of the composition, is of some significance as evidence alluding to a former establishment on site.
