What is recorded here
Following archaeological testing and monitoring on the N25 Youghal Bypass a hearth was excavated in 2001. The hearth (1.2m N-S; 0.96m E-W; D 0.18m) was suboval in plan with no discernible corners. It contained three ashy fills sitting on an oxidised base. A carbon sample taken from the fill produced a date of 160 cal. BC - AD 90 cal. (Noonan 2003g, 56). (Noonan 2001a; 2003g, 55-6)
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
