Headstone in Townparks North

Headstone

What is recorded here

FitzGerald transcribed the chipped letters in 1921, revealing Margaret Boyle, alias Pove, wife to Michael Boyle of Trim. She departed in 1731, yet the stone withholds her age. That missing number turns a ordinary burial marker into a small trap for memory.
Just outside the S wall of the chancel of St Patrick’s parish church (ME036-048012-) is a headstone (H c. 0.6m; Wth c. 0.3m) with an illegible inscription in false relief. It is the headstone of Margaret Boyle and has been described by FitzGerald (1921-5, 74) as: Fixed against the south wall of the ancient chancel is a headstone bearing this inscription: HERE LY / ETH THE BOD / Y OF MARGARET / BOYLE ALIAS PO /VGE WIFE TO MIC / HAEL BOYLE OF / TRIM WHO DEPAR / TED THIS LIFE T / HE FIRST DAY OF A / VGVST IN THE YEA / R OF OUR LORD / GOD 1731 AGED - / YEARS Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 4 March, 2015
