Headstone in Churchland

Headstone

What is recorded here

You are standing in Seir Kieran graveyard, County Offaly, where two rare 17th century sandstone headstones still mark the west quadrant. The older one bears only A R Jan ye 12th 1686, a name reduced to initials and a date, while its companion stands immediately to the north. Together they preserve a small buried world from before modern records, when identity could disappear as quickly as it was carved.
17th century sandstone headstone located in west quadrant of Seir Kieran graveyard (OF039-003007-), inscribed with the inscription that reads 'A R Jan ye 12th 1686'. A second 17th century sandstone headstone is situated immediately to the N (OF039-003028-). One of two 17th century headstones in the graveyard. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien.
