Habitation site in Unknown Townland

Habitation site

What is recorded here

Excavations at High Street in 1971 revealed habitation material of 11th-12th centuries. This includes post and wattle structures, considered to be workshops. Wooden door jambs and thresholds were present. These were enclosed by post and wattle boundary fences. The artifacts include bronze pins, bone combs and textile fragments. Gaming pieces were being made on the site and imported amber worked (O'Riordain, 1971, 30).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
